The Introduction to floristry Course

Have you always wanted to learn how to work with flowers? Perhaps you're thinking about a career change or you have a passion for flowers and want to learn some new skills. This three day course is the perfect way to get into the practical side of floristry whether you are a total beginner or have some experience already. Come and join us at the studio and be completely immersed in the glorious scent of seasonal flowers.

Day 1 - Bouquets & Crowns - 10am - 4pm

On day one we will settle in with cups of tea and biscuits and begin by creating a hand tied bouquet. I will teach you how to master the technique of choosing blooms, conditioning, spiralling stems, and gift wrapping.

In the afternoon we will be doing some more intricate work learning how to make flower crowns. We will focus on which flowers work well out of water as well as working on some wiring techniques.

Day 2 - Table Arrangements - 10am - 4pm

In the morning we will learn how to create a table arrangement in a low vase using the grid technique. We will be focusing on colour and form, learning where to place each bloom to really make the most of it.

In the afternoon we will be creating a frog pin arrangement as well as various bottles. Both of these skills are a beautiful way to work with flowers. We will be focusing on foam free techniques, how to dress a table and what vases are best to use.

Day 3 - Wreaths & Dried Flower Tablescape - 10am - 4pm

On our final day I will begin by teaching you how to create a beautiful traditional foliage wreath. We will start by creating a moss base on our reusable wreath ring and then begin to add foliage. We will slowly build our beautiful wreaths, finishing them off with some gorgeous decoration.

In the afternoon it will be all about dried flowers. We will use the skills learnt throughout the course to create various table arrangements. We will then create a tablescape all together in the studio using everyone's creations.

This course will focus on a more sustainable way of floristry working with flowers grown by me or sourced locally where possible. We will also be using foam free techniques. The flowers will move with the seasons providing you with a beautiful selection of what is at its best at that time of year.

All materials will be provided throughout the three days. Everything you create will be yours to take home at the end of the course. We strongly encourage you to document your work throughout. We will help you do this by discussing how best to photograph your flowers.

The course can be paid for in instalments. If you would like more information on this please email Helena at theallotmentflorist@gmail.com

A delicious lunch will be provided each day as well as refreshments – please email Helena at theallotmentflorist@gmail.com with any specific dietary requirements.

Due to the nature of British flowers and the fact that the blooms will be cut and sourced in advance I am unable to offer refunds or transfers to other dates. The course needs a minimum of 4 people to run.
